Editing styles are also different with each photographer. When you’re looking at a wedding photographers work, ask yourself one question: Can I imagine these photographs being my wedding? If the answer is yes, you’re already on the right track.

2. Look Beyond Instagram.
Instagram is a brilliant place to discover photographers, but remember you’re only seeing their highlight reel. Ask to see more wedding photographs, which is usually on their website. This will show you how a photographer captures every part of the day—from the nervous excitement while getting ready to the first dance and everything in between. Consistency matters much more than a handful of stunning sunset photos.
3. Make Sure You Click.
You’ll spend more time with your photographer than almost anyone else on your wedding day. That’s why personality matters. Your photographer should make you feel comfortable, relaxed and able to be yourselves. Most couples tell me they hate having their photograph taken, and honestly, that’s completely normal. My job isn’t to turn you into models, it’s to help you forget the camera is there so your personalities shine through. The best photographs happen when you’re enjoying your day, not worrying about posing in front of the camera.

Experience isn’t just about how many years someone has been photographing weddings. It’s about knowing what to do when it starts raining during your couple portraits.
